2012 Ford Edge Models Recalled for Fire Risk

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal has reported that Ford has recently recalled a group of Edge crossover vehicles from the 2012 model year to correct a possible problem with the vehicles’ fuel systems.  Ford believes that this could ultimately result in vehicular fires.

Ford filed a document with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stating that the affected vehicles had been manufactured from September 2, 2010 through October 31, 2011.  There are 5,499 total Edge models included in the recall that are equipped with 2.0 liter engines.

The housing of a part of the fuel line pulse damper in this group of recalled cars has the potential to crack because of a manufacturing defect.  These cracks can result in fuel leaks when the fuel system is under pressure, leading to the increased risk of a fire.

The recall is expected to begin on or near the date of September 24, 2012.  Under this recall, Ford will repair the vehicles free of charge.  Customers may contact Ford Motor Co. for any questions or concerns at 866-436-7332.
