ACCIDENTS IN DISABILITY AND MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION
When patients are transported in non-emergency situations, they often ride in medical vans, called “ambulettes.” Many of the passengers are elderly or in wheelchairs, or both.
Responsibilities of ambulette drivers:
- Ensure that both the wheelchair and the passenger are properly secured in the vehicle. If wheelchairs are not properly secured, they can come loose in an abrupt stop, potentially causing injury to passengers.
- Use the vehicle’s lift with caution, as it can cause injury to passengers if not used properly. Passengers must be able to enter and exit the vehicle safely.
Drivers of ambulettes are concerned about the safety of their passengers, but sometimes shortcuts are taken. At Friedman, Domiano & Smith, we have extensive experience representing individuals injured in all types of car accidents, including those involving ambulances and other commercial vehicles used for disability and medical transportation.
