How to Keep Your Children Safe This Halloween

It’s a holiday with unpredictable weather, during a time when it gets darker earlier, and on top of that, no one looks quite like themselves—it’s Halloween!

Here are some safety tips for keeping your children safe this weekend:

  1. Cross the street safely at corners and crosswalks. Do not run across the street.
  2. If your children are under the age of 12, they should not be left unsupervised by an adult. If you have younger children that you trust to be alone, always make sure they are in a large group of friends and stay in familiar areas.
  3. Try to add reflective tape or bright colors to costumes, backs, etc. for the nighttime.
  4. Try using face paint instead of actual masks, so as not to obstruct your child’s vision.
  5. Make sure costumes are fitted properly. Large costumes can cause children to trip and fall.
  6. Children should carry a small flashlight or glow stick with them in case they get lost or an area is too dark.
  7. As a driver, take extra caution. It is unpredictable where children are running to and from on Halloween, or Trick-or-Treating, nights.
  8. Trick-or-Treating usually happens between the hours of 5:30-9:30 p.m., so make sure to be on high alert during that timeframe.

Stay safe and have a Happy Halloween!
