Safe Work Practices On Aerial Lifts

Aerial lifts, such as boom-supported aerial platforms, cherry pickers or bucket trucks, can cause serious injuries or electrocution to workers. These injuries occur when workers fall or the equipment crashes or tips over.

To prevent these types of accidents, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) created guidelines for employers. To learn more about your rights as an employee, call Friedman Domiano & Smith Co., L.P.A., or click here for an online form.

Employers must follow these guidelines to maintain a safe work environment:

  • Train workers on how to properly use aerial lifts.
  • Train workers on the proper use of safety equipment to use with aerial lifts.
  • Instruct employees to wear proper equipment.
  • Never override safety devices.
  • Maintain a clearance of at least 10 feet from overhead lines.
  • Provide workers with body harnesses or other appropriate safety equipment.

Employers who fail to follow these safety procedures can be held legally responsible for injuries sustained by their employees. If you have been injured on the job, click here to find out how we have helped other workers get compensation for their injuries.
