Electronics manufacturer giant LG Electronics has issued a recall on several dehumidifiers due to malfunction. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall of severalKenmoreappliances as a result of burning and smoking from the units.
The units come from a select group of retailers. Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Kmart Corporation, ofHoffman Estates,Ill.have all sold five different versions of the affected units. There have been 107 reports of problems, with more than $7 million in property damage a couple of injuries caused by smoke inhalation.
The units within the recall were manufactured between 2003 and 2005. The dehumidifiers were sold at Sears and Kmart stores nationwide and Sears.com and Kmart.com from 2003 to 2009 for between $140 and $220.
If you are a consumer of one of these dehumidifiers, turn off the unit and unplug it immediately. Sears is offering gift cards starting at $75 to compensate for the recall. They are also offering a refund check for the predetermined amount depending on the year and make of the unit. All customers with these units will receive a $25 coupon for Sears and Sears.com for a new dehumidifier.
