Ohio Man Settles Lawsuit With Police

taserThe family of Matthew Hook,  from Dublin, Ohio,  has settled a federal civil rights lawsuit with the Columbus suburb of Perry Township, its board of trustees, and a police officer for $2.25 million. Hook had suffered brain damage after Perry Township police officer, Shawn Bean, used a Taser stun gun on him while he was atop an 8-foot fence.

Bean stunned Hook in the back as he climbed the fence, causing Hook to fall head-first onto the concrete below, leaving him with permanent brain damage. At the time (2010), Hook was 23 and was believed to be fleeing from police over a theft, but was unarmed. More details are emerging from this regional case.
