Family files suit against NYPD over death during robbery

Police crime sceneA New York City family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit asking for $25 million against the New York Police Department after their son, a bodega worker; Rynaldo Cuevas was shot and killed by police officers as he fled an armed robbery. Cuevas was innocently running away from the September robbery when he accidentally ran into police officer – Ramysh Bangali, who was responding to the robbery call.

According to utsandiego.com:

Investigators say the impact caused the officer’s gun to discharge and a stray bullet hit Cuevas, killing the young father.

The suit says Cuevas was shot “without reason or provocation.” However, the Bronx district attorney’s office has cleared Bengali of committing any crime. According to utsandiego.com, “The three alleged robbers are charged with felony murder in Cuevas’ death.” (The Associated Press)
