A Mentor resident was killed in a two-car crash in Chardon Township. The collision occurred Sunday afternoon on State Route 44 near milepost 19. The victim was driving a Nissan Sentra in the northbound lane when, for reasons unknown, he crossed over the centerline into oncoming traffic. He struck a 2021 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling south.

Officers arrived to find the Nissan driver dead at the scene. It is unknown if the pickup truck driver was hurt. Police are still unsure what caused the accident, but it does not appear alcohol was involved. An investigation is underway.

Car accident victims have recourse

Car accident victims are left facing serious challenges, which may be physical, mental, or economic. Overcoming these obstacles is difficult, but it is not impossible, especially with the help of an experienced motor vehicle accident attorney.

If your accident was caused by negligence or wrongdoing, an attorney can file a lawsuit against those responsible. A successful suit could result in a significant financial award known as damages, which compensates the victim for medical expenses, lost wages, and other losses they incurred because of the defendant’s misconduct.

Additionally, a lawyer can manage settlement negotiations with the opposing party and your insurance company, increasing the chances of a larger payout.

Cleveland residents should act quickly. Car accident lawsuits are complex and often require extensive investigation. Additionally, the State of Ohio imposes a two-year statute of limitations on all personal injury lawsuits. Failure to take action could mean permanently forfeiting the right to legal recourse.
