Ohio Dog Bite Law
The state of Ohio recognizes an owner's strict liability for a dog bite unless there is evidence that the dog was tormented or abused. Unlike some other states, dogs in Ohio do not get "one free bite".
There are a number of special laws that apply to owners of pit bulls. Owners of these dogs must make sure to keep these dogs secure and a locked pen that has a top. When dogs are let out of the pen, it must only be into an enclosed space, on a chain link leash that no longer than six feet, or muzzled. Additionally, pit bull owners are required to carry liability insurance coverage of no less than one hundred thousand dollars.
